My grandma got the recipe from a friend of her Mom’s, and my family has distributed it with our German friends her in America. I have some family from Germany, and when Spaghetti Eis was in its infancy of popularity, families from Germany were spreading the word to their fellow Germans in America. My family is closely associated with other German families, and German food recipes are always being shared. Spaghetti Eis, a staple of the German culture, is constantly present in my life and in many other Germans in America. His role within the Mannheim community cannot be misplaced, and he truly believes that the Fontanella brand will be present for many years to come. In a time of newness being needed within the company, he invented Spaghetti Eis, and his family past time has carried on with his name as the face of the organization (Stewart). Dario wanted to separate himself from his families past, and he decided to start an ice cream brand of his own. His family has been involved in the ice cream business for over 100 years, the majority of which they stayed in Mannheim (Stewart).

Today, Dario runs the business known as Eis Fontanella Eismanufaktur Mannheim. Mannheim is known as the city of inventors, and this award shows high praise for Dario. In 2014, “Fontanella was awarded the Bloomaulorden, the highest citizen’s award in Mannheim” (Stewart). Another interesting fact about Dario, he was only 18 years old when he created Spaghetti Eis. He decided to keep the vanilla cream base without adding color. His research on the product gave feedback on how he should enhance the image to make the look more appealing to his customers. The colors were supposed to be a symbol for the Italian flag being green, yellow, and red however, the feedback on the green ice cream was negative (Stewart). When Dario Fontanella was in the designing process of the product, he originally wanted the dish to resemble his Italian heritage. I know that when it is my birthday I request either Spaghetti Eis or a traditional Chocolate pie. It shows a sign of German pride when one indulges in the Eis.
